BASIS Peoria’s Workshop on Medicine, Business, and Beyond: A Huge Success
BASIS Peoria held its first Workshop on Medicine, Business, and Beyond on Saturday, March 26th, and nearly 100 students plus parents and siblings attended. our March 26 Workshop on Medicine, Business, and Beyond. It was also broadcast on Facebook Live. (You can see some of the event on their Facebook Page.)
The audience was able to have conversations and ask questions of 23 physicians about their specialties. There was a robotic surgery simulator for students to try their dexterity in manipulating small objects. One flyer on the sugar content of popular drinks (Re-Think Your Drink) caught my eye because it’s of particular importance for our students’ health.

Many thanks to Becky, Rakhi, Aaron, Joe, and parent Dr. Rekha Agarwal for organizing this unique event. Many thanks also to our sponsors, including Medtronics, Banner Health, Southwest Kidney Institute, Dr. Neeraj Singh of Colon & Rectal Care Center of Phoenix (thanks for the robot!), and student Avi Agarwal who sold his entire stock of Avi’s Sweet Treats.
A number of presenters and audience members called for this workshop to become an annual event. (We’re giving this serious thought so stay tuned!)
Physicians appreciated the opportunity to talk in-depth about their specialties which they don’t usually get in the course of their regular jobs. They also commented profusely on the high quality and inquisitiveness of our students, whom some likened to their first-year med students.
Proceeds benefit the Annual Teacher Fund.
