Learn about the benefits of completing a Senior Project at BASIS Charter Schools.
Senior Projects are a unique aspect of the BASIS Charter School Curriculum, giving students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in their desired career field. Students who complete a Senior Project will conduct high-level, off-campus research on an approved topic. Senior Projects allow students to gain valuable first-hand knowledge in their field of study while networking with professionals. Additionally, Senior Projects can help students stand out when applying to colleges.
The possibilities for Senior Project topics are endless! Our students have conducted research in fields such as healthcare, engineering, mathematics, legal services, education, marketing, and much more. Here are a few examples of project titles from past years:
Analysis of Trauma-Informed Care Screening
Biomechanics and Kung Fu: Bringing Traditional Martial Arts and Prosthetics Together
Exploring the World of Small Business Management
From An Idea to a Shelf: The Process of Book Publication
Psychological Responses to Injury Recovery in High School Athletes
Saving Our Sustainability: Coupling Decarbonization With Desalination in Water Purification
Students spend about 15 hours per week for 10 weeks completing research at their internship location. Additional time is spent meeting with BASIS faculty advisors, documenting project progress, and compiling findings for their final presentation. The final trimester of senior year is entirely dedicated to Senior Projects, so seniors do not have to juggle regular coursework with the completion of their project.
Yes, our College Guidance Counselors work diligently with our seniors to secure site placements for their Senior Projects. We guide our students through the process of identifying potential partner organizations. With the help of College Guidance Counselors, students contact potential research sites with their project proposal.
