My child is still developing social skills. How do you support that?

BASIS recognizes the importance of social-emotional learning alongside academics. Our teachers create a supportive classroom environment that encourages positive social interactions, empathy, and responsible behavior. We integrate social-emotional learning opportunities throughout the day, helping students develop healthy relationships and self-regulation skills.

How do you prepare students for success in later grades?

Our curriculum builds a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy and critical thinking skills. We emphasize collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. These skills are essential for future academic success. Additionally, our smaller student-to-teacher ratio allows for personalized attention and a nurturing environment that fosters a love of learning.

Is the curriculum too advanced for a 1st/2nd/3rd grader?

Our curriculum is designed to be engaging and challenging, but age-appropriate. We focus on building a strong foundation in core subjects like reading, writing, and math, while also sparking curiosity and a love of learning. Our experienced teachers differentiate instruction to ensure each child is appropriately challenged.

My child has special needs. Do you offer support for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 Plans?

BASIS is committed to providing a quality education for all students. We welcome students with IEPs and 504 Plans and work collaboratively with families and specialists to ensure each child receives the support they need to thrive in our program. Our qualified special education teachers and support staff develop individualized accommodations and modifications as outlined in each student’s plan.

Curriculum Grades 1–3

The BASIS Charter School Curriculum for grades 1–3 is rooted in our co-teaching model. Your student will rotate from classroom to classroom for different courses, with their LET traveling with them and providing consistency throughout the day.

Co-Teaching Model

Our Learning Expert Teachers (LETs) are experts in education and instruction, while our Subject Expert Teachers (SETs) are experts in a particular field of study. The LET provides individualized support to students while the SET delivers the main lesson. The LET monitors the progress of each student and acts as a point of contact for parents.

Skills for Success

We focus on helping our primary school students master concepts and skills in key subject areas so they can be prepared for success in our upper grades. Core courses include Math and Science, Humanities, Phonics, Engineering, Physical Education and more.

Reinforcing Key Concepts

Built into your student’s schedule multiple times per week, the Reading Enrichment, Math Enrichment and Computer Enrichment courses are designed to reinforce concepts taught in our core curriculum. In these classes, students use skills from multiple courses to solve real-world problems.

Before and After School Programs

All of our campuses offer a before-school program (Early Bird) and an after-school program (Late Bird) to give parents more flexibility for drop-off and pick-up times.
