Blog Graphic - National Merit Scholars 2024

Congratulations to Our 2024 National Merit Scholars

We are proud to announce that more than 90 Class of 2024 graduates from BASIS Charter Schools have been recognized as National Merit® Scholars.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for U.S. high school students. Students who display exceptional academic ability are eligible to receive a variety of merit-based scholarships. This year, approximately 6,870 students from across the country were awarded National Merit Scholarships—out of 1.3 million total students who entered the program.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation takes a variety of factors into consideration when choosing scholarship winners, including:

      • Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) scores
      • Academic record
      • Student essays
      • Demonstrated leadership in school and community activities
      • Recommendation letters from school principals

This year’s National Merit Scholars represent the best and brightest students from the Class of 2024 graduating class. We are thrilled to have so many BASIS Charter School graduates honored with this award!

    Types of National Merit Scholarships

National Merit Scholarship Finalists are eligible for three different types of scholarships:

        • National Merit $2500 Scholarships: Provided directly by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, this $2,500 scholarship may be used at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.

        • Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarships: These scholarships are awarded by partnering corporations and vary in amount. Corporations often choose winners who live in the same communities where the company is located or who are majoring in fields relevant to the company.

        • College-sponsored Merit Scholarships: These scholarships are awarded by specific colleges that are Merit Scholarship sponsors. College-sponsored scholarships are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study and range from $500 to $2,000 per year.
