Popular sports at BASIS Charter Schools
Some of the most popular sports offered at BASIS Charter Schools include:

These sports are offered at many different campuses across our network.
In addition, many of our campuses have more unique sports offerings that cater to the school’s specific community. For example, BASIS Flagstaff and BASIS Prescott offer Mountain Biking clubs, and BASIS Scottsdale has a Golf club.
Students test their skills in sports leagues
Another common misconception is that charter school sports teams only compete against other charter schools. In reality, sports at charter schools function similarly to traditional public schools.
Most of our upper schools participate in local or regional sports leagues, giving our students a chance to test their skills against schools inside and outside of our network. As much as we love the friendly rivalry between the BASIS Oro Valley and BASIS Tucson North basketball teams, it’s fun to cheer on our students against other local high schools, too! Our students win big!
BASIS students are constantly impressing us with their dedication and sportsmanship! Here are a few recent sports wins from across our network:
- The BASIS Mesa Junior High Boys Flag Football Team are state champions! This team secured their win during the 2025 Division 2 Canyon Athletic Association State Championship.
- Rounding off a season of impressive swim meet wins, the BASIS Chandler Girls Swim Team won the runner-up trophy in the 2024 Canyon Athletic Association State Meet.
- BASIS Phoenix dominated the 2025 Canyon Athletic Association Middle School State Tennis Championship, bringing home multiple titles—including Boys Singles Champion, Boys Doubles Champions, and Girls Singles Semifinalist.
- Xavier A., a 7th grade student from BASIS Phoenix, won the 2024 12U Golf Championship. With this win, Xavier proved himself as one of the top young golfers in the state.
- Timothy C., a junior from BASIS DC, is the highest-scoring Varsity Boys Basketball player in DC for the third year in a row. He is also among the top 20 scorers in the nation.
- The 5th grade and 6th grade Boys Soccer teams from BASIS Baton Rouge Materra became League Champions in their division. Go Gators!
