BASIS Texas Charter Schools, a network of award-winning, tuition-free public charter schools serving students in grades K–12, is proud to announce the appointment of Christopher Lester as the Head of School for BASIS Leander, opening for the 2026–27 school year. BASIS Leander will be the fourth BASIS Texas Charter Schools campus in the Greater Austin area, joining established locations in Austin, Cedar Park, and Pflugerville.
Lester, a seasoned educator and longtime leader within the BASIS Charter Schools network, brings more than a decade of experience guiding high-performing schools and cultivating strong academic cultures.
Previously, he served as Head of School at BASIS Mesa in Arizona, where he oversaw academic and operational functions of a K–12 campus of 900 students. Under his leadership, the “A” rated campus was consistently ranked among the state’s best K-12 schools. Lester began his BASIS Charter Schools career at BASIS Scottsdale, teaching AP-level Geography and mentoring new educators, where he was twice recognized as a Geographical Society Geography Teacher Fellow.

About BASIS Leander
BASIS Leander Primary and BASIS Leander will open in Fall 2026, serving grades K–5 and 6–8 respectively, with plans to expand to a full K–12 program. Located at 8770 Ranch to Market Rd 2243, Leander, TX 78641, the 94,125-square-foot campus will include:
- 31 standard classrooms, 8 science rooms, 3 primary STEM rooms
- 4 art rooms, 5 music/drama rooms, and 3 multipurpose spaces
- A full-size gym, black box theater, exercise room, and 3 outdoor play areas
