BASIS Charter Schools Named #1 High School in America for Consecutive Years in 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools Rankings

BASIS Tucson North tops the national list, with 11 BASIS schools among the country’s Top 100 public high schools.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. Aug. 19, 2025 — BASIS Charter Schools, a network of award-winning, tuition-free public charter schools serving grades K–12, has once again earned national prominence, with BASIS Tucson North ranked the #1 public high school in America in the newly released U.S. News & World Report 2025 Best High Schools rankings. This marks the second consecutive year a BASIS high school has claimed the top spot, following BASIS Peoria’s #1 ranking in 2024.

In 2025, two BASIS high schools placed in the Top 20 nationwide (#1 BASIS Tucson North and #17 BASIS Phoenix), and 11 campuses ranked among the nation’s Top 100. The network also earned distinction for STEM excellence, with nine BASIS high schools recognized among the Top 100 STEM schools in America. In addition, Arizona’s top 10 high schools are all BASIS campuses.

The U.S. News rankings identify high schools that consistently deliver exceptional outcomes for students of all backgrounds, using six weighted measures: college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, and graduation rate. Nearly 18,000 schools were ranked using data from the 2022-23 academic year at more than 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia.

“This achievement reaffirms what families in each of our school communities already know – a BASIS education is unmatched,” said Peter Bezanson, Co-Chairman of BASIS Educational Ventures. “At BASIS, our students don’t just meet expectations; they exceed them in every area, from college readiness to state assessments, thanks to the relentless dedication of our teachers, students, and families.”

While the rankings spotlight high school performance, BASIS leaders emphasize that this level of achievement is the product of a K–12 journey. Students begin in BASIS primary grades, where they are challenged and supported by expert educators, building the academic foundation that leads to top-tier high school results.

“Every BASIS campus shares in this honor,” added Bezanson. “Whether you teach engineering in kindergarten, or AP Physics to high school students, your work has a direct impact on our students’ success at the national level.”

As the flagship BASIS campus opening in 1998, BASIS Tucson North has led the way in student achievement for nearly three decades, setting a standard for the BASIS school network and beyond. BASIS schools offer a rigorous STEM-infused liberal arts curriculum that prepares students for college, career, and leadership in a global economy.

“Excellence is never an accident. These rankings are the result of a proven model, extraordinary teachers, and students who embrace challenge as opportunity,” said Dr. Craig R. Barrett, Chairman of the Board of BASIS Charter Schools. “BASIS schools demonstrate that public education, when done right, can prepare every child, regardless of background, to perform at the highest levels in the nation.”

BASIS Charter Schools demonstrate that when given access to a rigorous, high-quality education, students from all backgrounds can graduate prepared to compete and lead in a rapidly evolving global marketplace.
