BASIS is #1 in the nation—again! We are thrilled to announce that BASIS Charter Schools has once again earned national prominence, with BASIS Tucson North ranked the #1 public high school in America in the newly released U.S. News & World Report 2025 Best High Schools rankings. This marks the second consecutive year a BASIS high school has claimed the top spot, following BASIS Peoria’s #1 ranking in 2024. 11 BASIS campuses placed in the Top 100 nationwide, more than any other school district or network.
This is the second time BASIS Tucson North has earned the title of #1 public high school in America. The school was previously ranked #1 in the nation in 2008 by Newsweek.
In 2025, two BASIS high schools placed in the Top 20 nationwide (#1 BASIS Tucson North and #17 BASIS Phoenix). The network also earned distinction for STEM excellence, with nine BASIS high schools recognized among the Top 100 STEM schools in America. In addition, Arizona’s top 10 high schools are all BASIS campuses.
Congratulations to the students, teachers, staff, and families at BASIS Charter Schools for this incredible recognition!
How U.S. News & World Report rankings work
The U.S. News & World Report Best High School rankings identify high schools that consistently deliver exceptional outcomes for students of all backgrounds. The rankings use six weighted measures: college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, and graduation rate.
For their 2025 Best High School rankings, nearly 18,000 schools were ranked using data from the 2022-23 academic year at more than 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia.
BASIS is unmatched in 2025 rankings
The BASIS Charter Schools network led U.S. News & World Report Best High School rankings in national, charter, STEM, and state categories—showing that excellence in education starts here.
“This achievement reaffirms what families in each of our school communities already know—a BASIS education is unmatched,” said Peter Bezanson, Co-Chairman of BASIS Educational Ventures. “At BASIS, our students don’t just meet expectations; they exceed them in every area, from college readiness to state assessments, thanks to the relentless dedication of our teachers, students, and families.”
“Excellence is never an accident. These rankings are the result of a proven model, extraordinary teachers, and students who embrace challenge as opportunity,” said Dr. Craig R. Barrett, Chairman of the Board of BASIS Charter Schools. “BASIS schools demonstrate that public education, when done right, can prepare every child, regardless of background, to perform at the highest levels in the nation.”
A shared win for our network
While the rankings spotlight high school performance, BASIS leaders emphasize that this level of achievement is the product of a K–12 journey. Students begin in BASIS primary grades, where they are challenged and supported by expert educators, building the academic foundation that leads to top-tier high school results.
“Every BASIS campus shares in this honor,” said Bezanson. “Whether you teach engineering in kindergarten or AP Physics to high school students, your work has a direct impact on our students’ success at the national level.”
BASIS prepares students for college, career, and leadership
