More than 90 countries will participate in the Olympiad which has been held annually since 1968. Students will compete in various activities, exams, and laboratories during the length of the tournament. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in cultural exploration of Uzbekistan through planned visits to local parks and businesses.
Ethan, along with his three teammates from across the U.S. were selected through a four-tier process sponsored by ACS. Students must take a local chemistry placement exam which is then followed by a National Chemistry Olympiad Exam in April. Those who move past the National Exam attend a two weeklong chemistry study camp where four students are selected to participate in the International Chemistry Olympiad.
“Ethan Cho is not only an exemplary student who is a high academic performer but embodies what we expect our students to be at BASIS Scottsdale,” says Head of School Chadwick Carey. “Ethan has a remarkable passion for learning and is polite, respectful, and kind to every person at our school. Since the first day I met Ethan at the beginning of his ninth-grade year, he has never seized to impress me. For Ethan to represent BASIS Scottsdale, and the United States, for the Chemistry Olympiad is not a surprise, and we are extremely proud to have him as one of our students.”
In addition to Ethan’s participation in Team USA, BASIS Charter Schools is proud to highlight Bowen Z. (BASIS Chandler) who will serve as second alternate on the team.
